Sustainability

We are not only committed to creating high quality home goods and clothing , but we also want to do it responsibly. We do everything we can to minimize the impact of our production and the footprint left by our company. Being a sustainable business isn't a marketing strategy. It's how we do business, and we are always looking to improve.
Here are just a few of the things that we do to make sure that we have some of the most sustainable, eco, and people friendly clothing on the market:

  • Our production facilities use harvested rainwater to flush toilets and skylights to keep energy use to a minimum.
  • Our fabrics are organic whenever possible.
  • Our fabrics are from other sustainable sources, primarily US grown Organic Cotton.
  • Our fabrics are milled in the USA whenever possible. Some yarns simply are not available domestically, but we're thrilled that now the vast majority of our fabrics are sourced domestically.
  • In addition, whenever it's available we source the yarns for our USA Made fabric grown organically in the US also. Depending on growing conditions, this isn't always possible, but we do extensive work to do this whenever possible.
  • Our inks are water-based, and/or soy based to have the least impact on water-processing facilities
  • Our inks pass the most stringent eco and safety compliance standards, including the Oeko-Tex Standard 100 (complies with CPSIA, and suitable for baby clothes in the EU and Japan) in addition to Nike RSL, and Adidas. Our inks are free from PVC, PHThalate, have A-AO less than0.03 Formaldehyde, no Oregano Tin, and no colorants based on cleavable MAK Amines.
  • We frequently 'rescue' material bound for the waste stream for limited-edition product runs
  • Our shipping packaging is made of environmentally conscious materials. The corrugated boxes are approved by the Sustainable Forestry Initiative and are fully recyclable. The small mailing envelopes we use are made of 88% post-consumer fibers and our larger mailers are made of 100% biodegradable material.
  • We also do all of the little things of course, like recycling, using recycled paper and envelopes, plastic bags, try and reduce our production waste to near 0, and include minimizing waste and maximizing sustainability as a core consideration in nearly every decision we make.

Made In The USA -- By Us.

The production space now includes over 2000 square feet including a design studio, screen printing shop, sewing machines, and cutting tables. Our control of every part of the design and manufacturing process led us to design a unique manufacturing procedure that we use for nearly every piece we make:

1) we cut the fabric for every single product
2) we screen print each individual cut piece
3) we sew the printed pieces into finished products.

By printing on cut pieces, instead of complete items, we are able to integrate prints into garments in ways that would be impossible with traditional manufacturing techniques.

Doing both printing and sewing in one location is extremely rare for small manufacturers, and we're always evolving and innovating with our printing techniques. For instance some of our pieces involve printing the same pillow a half a dozen times, before it ever touches a sewing machine. The result is beautiful items for your home with prints flowing smoothly into seams, the insides of bags, or distinctly printed on front and back, for variety and longevity. This also allows us to have reasonable prices, minimized waste, utilizing sustainable materials, and maintaining US-made quality.

We are thrilled to be a part of the movement of bringing production back to the US. Every part of our company is proudly based in Portland, OR. Making everything ourselves, here, and with local and US based suppliers isn't a marketing gimmick.  It's the foundation of our company, and it's never going to change.

We design our own products and lay-our fabric. We cut the pieces and create our own prints. We mix our own inks and pull our own prints. We stitch and quality-control every individual piece, so we know we can stand by our quality, and our eco and human friendly manufacturing and business practices.
